Chinese New Year

Posted in Events, Festivals, Food & Beverage with tags , , , on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 by Colin Quek

It’s here again, the most celebrated and awaited Chinese holiday. It’s a new beginning and adds new hope for past dreams, with fresh energy for the things that lie ahead.

On the eve (today) of Chinese New Year, we will have Reunion Dinner. This is my favorite part of the whole thing…ok second to the collection of red-packets 🙂 Tonight’s the night where the whole family comes together to enjoy each other’s presence and have a meal.

Needless to say, I had a feast of a time,

The above is a typical steamboat setup for Singaporean Chinese. Yes! my favorite BBQ crab sticks.

Yusheng – Tossing of various ingredients e.g. sliced ginger, crackers, raw fish slices. The higher you toss, the more prosperous this year will be for you!

And a part of the ingredients. My mum makes the best of soup base for steamboat.

Ahhhh Planta, I cannot have BBQ without Planta as a base. Its’ great taste has remain relatively unchanged for years.

TRY this: Planta + BBQ Crab Stick / Abalone slices

I figured the best way to lift the cheers of Chinese New Year is to get my viewers, that’s YOU to send your greetings, so take a minute or two, type in your greetings and click the Submit Comments button!

Big Bike Fest 2007

Posted in Blogroll, Events, Singapore on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 by Colin Quek

Suntec City, sky-scraping offices,, home of big name companies such as IDA (Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore), Microsoft Corporation, Carrefour, etc. The place where the suits are, as you would say it. For 2 days on the 15th and 16th of Sept, the suits made way for the Big Mean Bikes to gather and show off.

Its the first ever Big Bike Festival in Singapore. The biggest names in biking turned up in full force, you name it, we have it. Harleys, Suzukis, Yamahas…

I sort of got the bike bug through it all, having unknowingly chosen the top 3 fastest bikes in the world as my favorites of the show. Info courtesy of my friend, who has a database of bike specs somewhere inside his brain!

A few shots to offer for the wonderful display.

You can’t have bikes without babes…

This is one ultra cool bike, I guess it’s built to do what’s labeled-RIOT!

Of special mention is Mr Ryan Suchanek member of bike stunt group Vertical Mischief. Ryan’s stunts on his bike turn the audience into a noisy pack of participants cheering him on for more. I wish I had spent more time with the man

Need I mention his smile is infectious.

There is even a beer drinking competition to which a crew member of local (YES Singapore) bike group Phantom Knights gulped his way to top spot.

There were countless participants… as is evident of the shot below…

Here’s a toast to Big bike Fest 2007… and forward to Big Bike Fest 2008

AFC Talentime 2007

Posted in Blogroll, Brunei, Events, Friends, Life on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 by Colin Quek

Had the wonderful honour to be part of Agape Family Center’s Talentime 2007. And Talented the members were. I was treated to such a display of creativity and professional stagemanship, that I have to give them 2 thumbs up.

One thing I would have wanted to add to the photo would have been a short few words from the winners though.

The winners for the night…you can imagine the number of the entire talentime participants.

And not to forget the Judges. One of whom is Mr. Clement Chow, who performed the famous “Count on me Singapore” (the official National Day Song for Singapore).

Really am looking forward to AFC Talentime 2008.
